About Penance
Penance is a Canadian jewellery brand making hand-finished sterling silver for people who want the weight and darkness of high-end gothic silver without the high-end markup.
The material
Every piece is solid 925 sterling silver — not plated, not filled. Oxidized and blackened by hand, so each piece carries its own depth and shadow. The finish is meant to live and change: it wears, catches light, and darkens with time. That evolution is the point.
The mark
The house is built around a single motif — the nail. It runs through the work: struck into signets, forged into crosses, wrapped into cuffs, fanned across bands. A quiet, deliberate through-line. The nail carries weight. It suggests permanence, penance, and the small rituals of wearing something that means something.
The idea
